How three busy subcontractors became more productive in the field

How can a construction management app help subcontractors be more efficient? In a recent webinar, Fieldwire’s construction team welcomed three customers to share their experience using the app. Marc Brumbaugh from ElectriForce, Ray Griffis from JSC Systems, and Ian Harrell from Rolling Plains discussed how their teams leverage Fieldwire in their daily operations.

As a project manager for Rolling Plains Construction Southeast Division, Ian Harrell has quickly seen the impact of Fieldwire for his crew. The ability to have technicians access the drawings and make edits and markups in real-time helped streamline and simplify the communication between office and field. “Field communications are no longer hindered by the delays that happen with email and phone calls”, said Harrell.

“If I need to know what's going on in the project, I look at Fieldwire, it's up to date, based on the input from the field. So it's just much more seamless, much faster.”

The first thing that impressed Marc Brumbaugh, Operations Manager at ElectriForce, was the ease of use of Fieldwire. “Having a system that is very user friendly made the transition and the ability to have the team get on it very easy.” The jobsite management app has made it easier for the technicians and field foremen to identify when the site conditions conflicted with what the documents were indicating, and then create a RFI. “All too often, decisions are made in the field without proper information. Fieldwire allowed us to be a lot more proactive rather than reactive,” said Brumbaugh.

Ray Griffis started using Fieldwire as a technician. Now, as a project manager at JSC Systems, he has played a key role in implementing the app companywide. One of the deciding factors for JSC Systems to adopt Fieldwire was when Griffis used his own license to resolve a dispute. When a general contractor contacted his client to say they were behind on a project, he was able to quickly prove that they were, in fact, ahead of schedule. “It took me all of 7 minutes to pull up a report on Fieldwire that had photo documentations, task lists, and send it right back”. As someone who has used the app on the field and as a project manager, Griffis can easily see the benefits when it comes to project efficiency: “The technicians like not having to go see a paper set of prints on the other side of the building. They love that I can tell them ‘hey, go to task 249’, and they can instantly pull it up.”
